How high should I mount my Roman blind?

We recommend mounting your Roman blind approximately 15 cm (6 in) above the window, or as close to the ceiling as possible. This creates the illusion of higher ceilings and allows more of the window to remain visible when the blind is raised. When fully raised, the Roman blind stacks to approximately 30 cm (12 in), so it's important to consider this when choosing the mounting height. If you don't have 15 cm (6 in) above your window, that's usually not a problem. The most important thing is to leave at least 7 cm (2.8 in) between the window trim and the mounting position so the cord lock mechanism can operate without hitting the trim. We generally recommend wall or ceiling mounting whenever possible. You can also follow our mounting guide here! Not sure how to mount your Roman blind? What is a roman blind and how does it work?

A Roman blind is a curtain that is mounted outside the window frame and, when lowered, covers the whole window opening. The Roman blind is hoisted up by a cord mechanism that folds the fabric. The benefits with this solution is that you can choose how much of your window you wish to cover Gotain offers Roman blinds in three different fabric qualities: Bouclé , Woven Linen , and Sheer Linen . Both Bouclé and Woven Linen are available with or without blackout lining. For blackout in a room where a sheer Roman blind is used, we offer custom-made blackout roller blinds that can be mounted behind for additional light control. Here, you can read our guide on how to measure for custom-made Roman blinds .

How do I measure for my roman blind?

Gotain's Roman blinds can be mounted on the wall or ceiling and are custom-made to fit both width and length. If your Roman blind will be mounted on the ceiling, determine the length by measuring from the ceiling down to the windowsill, and the width by measuring from edge to edge of the window frame. If you are mounting the Roman blind on the wall instead, determine the length by measuring from 7 cm above the window frame down to the windowsill (this measurement is required for the cord lock to function properly) or 15 cm above to create the impression of a higher ceiling. Determine the width by measuring from edge to edge of the window frame. Here, you can find our complete guide on how to measure for Roman blinds.

What is the difference between a roman blind, a rollerblind and a roll-up?

The difference between a Roman blind and a roller blind is partially the textile, but also the function and appearance. A Roman blind is made of soft fabric, while a roller blind is made of a firmer weave, often with a blackout effect. The mechanism also differs, as a Roman blind is gradually folded up and gathered in folds above your window, whereas a roller blind is rolled up and gathered into a roll/cylinder above your window. A roll-up curtain is, appearance-wise, more similar to a roller blind but made of soft fabric. It has no hoisting mechanism, as it is rolled up manually when needed. Just like a roller blind, it is gathered into a roll/cylinder above your window.
