The blackout curtain in woven linen has a timeless look and fits modern spaces as well as a turn of the century style homes.

Mount the curtains with a track. For the blackout curtains to reach their full potential it's important how you install your tracks! We always recommend mounting you curtains on a track, preferably a ceiling mounted track for the best possible result. The trick is fitting the track as high up as possible and to let it extend along the whole width of the room. This means that no light can sneak in on the sides and compromise the blackout effect.

The width of the curtain is just as important as the mounting of the tracks when it comes to getting the best possbile blackout effect from your curtains. More fabric gives a better result, and it's important to, as a minimum, choose enough fabric to drape the whole width of the track. Gotain curtains come in two fixed widths, which we call single width and double width. A curtain in single width is 140cm when flat, but can drape as wide as ca 80-90cm when mounted with hooks. To maintain the color and quality we recommend vacuuming you curtains every now and then. Use a soft nozzle and gently let it run along the fabric to remove dust and dirt, that otherwise penetrates the fabric. Use a steamer to minimise creasing created over time.

To acheive the most efficient blackout effect, we sew the blackout lining into the seams of our curtains. As these two textiles are of completely different compositions and characteristics, you will risk runining the curtain by washing it as a whole. Instead - in case of dirt/staining we always recommend spot treatment on the affected area. Clean with warm water on a white cloth - gently dab the fabric and finish by steaming - let dry. The curtain should not be ironed as the heat will risk compromising the blackout lining. Steam the curtain regularly instead to remove any creasing caused by folding or usage.

With a blackout lining the curtain gets many benefits, besides blocking out light it also gets a bonus effect of becoming slightly sound isolating. For the best possible result, the key is the same as for the best possbile blackout effect, mounting your curtains high and wide with a drape on the floor. We recommend fitting your curtains on a ceiling mounted track the extends along the whole width of the room, and a drape of ca 1cm on the floor.

Gotain uses the same blackout lining on all curtains, so the blackout effect is the same regardless if you choose a light or dark color for your curtain. It can be good to keep in mind that the darker the color of your blackout curtain, the darker the room will appear. It's basically the same principle as when choosing between a dark or light color for your walls, a white color will make the room feel brighter than a dark color, even though the light admission is the same.
