Roman Shades

A Roman shade is a curtain that is mounted outside the window frame and, when lowered, covers the whole window opening. The Roman shade is hoisted up by a cord mechanism that folds the fabric. The benefits with this solution is that you can choose how much of your window you wish to cover

Gotain offers Roman shades in three different fabric qualities: Bouclé, Woven Linen, and Sheer Linen. Both Bouclé and Woven Linen are available with or without blackout lining. For blackout in a room where a sheer Roman shade is used, we offer custom-made blackout roller blinds that can be mounted behind for additional light control.

Gotain's Roman shades can be mounted on the wall or ceiling and are custom-made to fit both width and length. If your Roman shade will be mounted on the ceiling, determine the length by measuring from the ceiling down to the windowsill, and the width by measuring from edge to edge of the window frame.

If you are mounting the Roman shade on the wall instead, determine the length by measuring from 7 cm above the window frame down to the windowsill (this measurement is required for the cord lock to function properly) or 15 cm above to create the impression of a higher ceiling. Determine the width by measuring from edge to edge of the window frame.

The difference between a Roman shade and a roller blind is partially the textile, but also the function and appearance. A Roman shade is made of soft fabric, while a roller blind is made of a firmer weave, often with a blackout effect. The mechanism also differs, as a Roman shade is gradually folded up and gathered in folds above your window, whereas a roller blind is rolled up and gathered into a roll/cylinder above your window.

A roll-up curtain is, appearance-wise, more similar to a roller blind but made of soft fabric. It has no hoisting mechanism, as it is rolled up manually when needed. Just like a roller blind, it is gathered into a roll/cylinder above your window.
