Most of Gotain's valances are available in two different styles, with straight finish or curved finish. One model has curved ends, which is the classic valance look that frames the curtain installation and covers the sides. The look that we call “straight finish” leaves the sides open, suitable for wall-to-wall installation.
How to measure width for a curved valance
The valance is 5.9 inches (15 cm) deep and is mounted on the ceiling (if you want to mount it on the wall, you need to contact us to order wall brackets).
The valance is installed in front of a standard curtain track with curtain panels. To measure how wide the valance should be, take the outer width of your window frame and add 9.8 inches (+25 cm).
To measure how wide the curtain track should be, take the width of the valance and subtract 13.4 inches (−34 cm). The final look will be a valance that covers your window plus 5.9 inches (+15 cm) on each side.
The curtain valance with a curved finish should always be ordered based on the total width, not the visible width. Please note that 9.8 inches (25 cm) of the total width is used to create the curved finish and is therefore not part of the visible front-facing width.
Example: If you want a visible width of 79 inches (200 cm), order the valance in a total width of 88.5 inches (225 cm.)
This is a general guide for a single-width look. If you want a more tailored solution for your window, we recommend consulting our curtain experts.
How to measure width for a straight valance
Measure the full width of the wall where the valance will be installed, this will be the total width of the valance.
Curtain valance height
The recommended height for a curtain valance is approximately 13.8 inches (35 cm), which creates a balanced and stylish impression in most windows. If you need more coverage or want a more decorative feel, you can choose a taller model – we offer curtain valances up to 23.6 inches (60 cm) in height.
