How to: Roman Shades
Create a soft flow of light and a harmonious atmosphere at home with Roman shades - an elegant way to add privacy without blocking out the daylight. Our Roman shades are custom-made to fit your windows and available in a variety of styles and shades, making it easy to find the perfect match for your space and aesthetic.
Roman Shade Soft Style
Soft style is the latest addition to our Roman shade collection – a model named after the gentle, relaxed expression of its lower edge, in contrast to the more structured look of a classic Roman shade. With its pared-back design and construction without battens, the blind takes on an almost screen-like drape when lowered - soft, textile, and uninterrupted. A weighted bottom bar ensures a clean and elegant finish.
The design has a subtle British feel and fits beautifully in interiors where function and character go hand in hand - whether it's a classic townhouse or a modern home with timeless elements. Soft is crafted in sheer linen and works just as well on its own as it does paired with café curtains or full-length drapes for a more layered look.

Roman Shade Scallop Edge
The Scallop Roman shade is a true piece of craftsmanship, combining our customer favourite - woven linen - with a contrasting trim and a playful scalloped edge. A personal and charming blind that adds character and a unique touch to any room, whether it’s a kids room or a living space.
One of our most popular ways to style this blind is to pair it with a matching valance and full-length curtains in the same fabric - a look that creates a cosy, layered feel, especially suited to playful children’s rooms. Try the look in your own space using our planning tool!

Roman Shade

Our classic Roman shade is available in a selection of fabrics - from sheer linen to woven linen and bouclé - and acts like a chameleon in any interior. With a maximum width of 230 cm, the model fits most windows and is constructed with metal battens for added stability and durability.
Use it on its own for a clean and functional solution - ideal for children's rooms, kitchens, or bedrooms where smart placements are often needed. For a more framed and decorative look, pair it with curtain panels in the same fabric to create a seamless and cohesive expression throughout the room.

Black-Out Roman Shade
The blackout Roman shade is a long-awaited addition to the collection - a functional design that doesn’t compromise on softness or atmosphere. It’s crafted in our most popular fabrics, woven linen and bouclé, and combines a gentle expression with effective light blocking.
To achieve full blackout, the blind is lined with a premium blackout backing - offering the highest level of light reduction available. It’s mounted on a cassette and operated with a ball chain, rather than the track-and-cord system used in our other Roman shades, providing a stable and durable construction that’s especially well suited for this slightly heavier model.

PAIR WITH CAFÉ CURTAINS
Combine Roman shades with café curtains for a flexible and functional privacy solution that adapts to both daylight and your needs. By placing a café curtain on the lower part of the window and a Roman shade above, you can easily adjust both light and privacy – from the top and bottom.

FLEXIBLE BLACKOUT
For those who want to combine soft daylight with full blackout, adding a roller blind behind a Roman blind is a smart solution. Choose a light-filtering Roman blind for daytime use, and complement it with a blackout roller blind behind - invisible when not in use, but highly effective when you want to block out the light completely.

HOW TO MEASURE
Gotain's Roman shades can be mounted on the wall or ceiling and are custom-made to fit both width and length. If your Roman shade will be mounted on the ceiling, determine the length by measuring from the ceiling down to the windowsill, and the width by measuring from edge to edge of the window frame.
If you are mounting the Roman shade on the wall instead, determine the length by measuring from 7 cm above the window frame down to the windowsill (this measurement is required for the cord lock to function properly) or 15 cm above to create the impression of a higher ceiling.
