How to: Café Curtains

Café curtains - traditionally used in small European cafés to offer privacy while still letting daylight pour in, have become a beloved choice in modern homes for the same reason. Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and children’s rooms, café curtains create a warm, inviting atmosphere - allowing light to dance through the fabric while keeping the space comfortably private.

Engla Löf has invited us into her studio apartment at Gärdet in Stockholm to share how she has decorated with café curtains, and how different models can create different moods in a room.

Our Café curtain models

CLASSIC CAFÉ CURTAIN
'Classic' is a café curtain in a rustic style, drawing inspiration from the French countryside and its nature-inspired interiors. The soft pleats of the curtain create an elegant and timeless look that complements all types of interior styles, from rustic to modern, depending on how it is paired.

The Classic model is available in sheer linen and woven linen, and comes as a complete package with a rod and niche brackets for smooth and easy installation.

MINIMALIST CAFÉ CURTAIN
Minimalist is a modern interpretation of simplicity, inspired by the elegant lines and understated aesthetics of Japanese window screens. The design is characterized by lightweight, semi-transparent fabrics that create an airy and harmonious atmosphere in the room.

The Minimalist model is available in sheer linen and woven linen, and comes as a complete package with a rod and niche brackets for smooth and easy installation.

CAFÉ CURTAIN WITH RINGS
The Café Curtain with Rings is our latest addition - a model that combines a classic expression with modern functionality. Using pleating tape and hooks, the curtain forms beautifully soft folds, while the visible rod adds a touch of character to the window. Unlike our other models, this version comes in two panels, allowing you to open the curtains in the middle.

The Café Curtain with Rings is available in Sheer Linen and Woven Linen, and is delivered complete with rod and niche brackets for easy installation. Complete the look with high curtain hooks.

TIPS FROM THE CURTAIN EXPERT: COMBINE WITH ROMAN BLINDS
A curtain combination growing in popularity is pairing Roman blinds with café curtains. Roman blinds are positioned over the upper part of the window, allowing for easy adjustment of both light and privacy, while café curtains on the lower part provide a more permanent sense of seclusion.

INSTALLATION
Installing Gotain’s café curtains is simple and effortless - everything you need is included. Each curtain comes with a rod and niche brackets for quick and seamless installation. Once the curtain is in place, finish by steaming the fabric to let the linen fall softly and reveal its natural texture - a small detail that makes all the difference.
