The 90 degrees angle is used together with Gotain's curtain rails in complete packages using a joint. Remember to help the rail at the joint with extra holders so that the rail remains stable and does not sag.

If you assume that a curtain rail is parallel to the window, the angle goes from you, towards the window. An angle in the other direction can be found here.
