Hello Home

Hello Home, Emelie Törling

When the crisp winter air settles in, we visit Emelie in the Brick Villa north of Stockholm. The fire crackles softly in the background, filling the room with a calm warmth. It is a gentle transition between the last tones of autumn and winter’s soft light.

Emelie, artist and creator, lives here with her husband Gustaf and their three daughters in a home where brick, natural materials, and carefully chosen objects come together. Traces of their years in New York blend seamlessly with the life they have built in Stockholm. It is a creative, serene, and thoughtfully curated oasis where every piece holds a place in the story.

In the living room, we are met by a warm and inviting atmosphere, where the fireplace, the chandelier, and the bookshelf set the tone. Through the double doors, the garden appears with stone, pine, and stacked firewood.

Here, textiles elevate the space. Airy linen curtains paired with woven bouclé drapes in a wintery ivory tone add shape, structure, and a soft, diffused light that fills the room. The combination creates a subtle contrast between the textiles, adding depth and character while wrapping the room in an embracing calm.“When I chose bouclé, it was the feeling that captivated me,” Emelie says. “The texture, the softness, the warmth. There is something deeply comforting in it.

”The black curtain rods and the chain-like tiebacks reinforce the expression. “They are like jewelry, subtle but lifting everything without demanding attention,” she adds.

In the kitchen, the same textile expression continues and naturally connects the rooms. On the wall nearby hangs one of Emelie’s own artworks, effortlessly adding a touch of color and giving the room a warm and personal pulse.

At the window above the sink, a bouclé Roman blind in ivory meets the black window frame and the stainless-steel kitchen with a gentle softness. Together, the textiles create a harmonious and embracing kitchen, balanced by dark details.

Upstairs, the daughters’ rooms feature playful wavy valances in woven linen in soft pink, edged in terracotta, paired with sheer linen curtains in the same delicate tone. Emelie has also hand-painted motifs on the walls, a detail that makes the rooms truly special.

In the studio, a space where time moves slower, Emelie lets her creative everyday life unfold. “For me, painting is about giving a feeling a place to land,” she says. She draws inspiration from movement, nature, people, and intense moments, letting routine carry the creative process even on the days when inspiration feels far away.

Our conversation soon turns to something that feels especially present this time of year: thoughtfulness and the joy of giving. For Emelie, the perfect gift is one that is genuinely considered. “Something that shows that someone has truly seen me,” she says. It can be small, personal, or simply something that carries the right feeling.

As we wrap up, she reflects on the season ahead, a time to honor the soft and intuitive. For Emelie, it is about remaining open and present even when life moves faster than expected. It is about making room for stillness, listening inward, and creating with lightness rather than pressure.

This sentiment can be felt throughout the Brick Villa. It lives in the textures, the colors, and the materials that together build a warm and grounded atmosphere. It is a home where softness stands as strength, and where both family and friends can settle into a calm that flows through every room.
